Dirty Horchata

Creamy horchata flavored with vanilla and cinnamon, topped with a shot of espresso. A truly unique drink and a must try!

Ingredients

  • 5 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cup long grain rice, uncooked
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup freshly brewed espresso
  • Frothed milk or whipped cream, for topping
  • Cinnamon, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. 1Pour the rice, cinnamon stick, and 2 cups of water into a blender; blend until rice is finely ground, about 2 minutes. Add the rice mixture and the rest of the water and soak at room temperature for at least 4 hours, overnight is best.
  2. 2Strain the rice water into a pitcher and discard the rice. Stir the milk, sugar, and vanilla into the rice water.
  3. 3Divide the horchata among ice-filled glasses and pour about a 1/4 cup espresso over the horchata. Top with frothed milk or whipped cream and cinnamon.
